What are solar powered skylights?

Solar-powered skylights are a sustainable and energy-efficient skylight option that harnesses solar energy.

The Illume solar skylights we install are an alternative to traditional skylights and can be installed in spots where regular skylights aren't an option.

Designed to transform sunlight into illumination, Illume automatically adjusts its brightness to mirror outdoor lighting conditions, providing a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor lighting in your home.

Illume Solar Skylight Specifications

The Illume is only 10mm in thickness, this allows it to fit flush into the plasterboard, which is also 10mm thick. There is no need to cut holes in your roof, saving you money. No leaks, no bugs and no heat transfer whilst maintaining energy efficiency.

An illume skylight alternative will provide you with many years of brightness, we expect the illume panel to last for approximately 15 years and the solar collector may last slightly longer to about 20 years.

• Appearance: The led panel of a solar skylight is only 10mm thick and is flush with the plasterboard once installed. It is not impeded by roof joists so can be located anywhere.
• Efficiency: Solar skylights have no light tube from the roof through to the ceiling. They don’t transfer external heat in summer or lose internal heat in winter. a wire runs from the solar panel, at the optimum position on the roof to any location within the house to the led panel.
• Maintenance: Solar skylights are maintenance free as the led panel is a sealed unit. Unlike conventional skylights, they don't collect dirt or insects. Installation requires no roof penetration and therefore eliminates roof leaks.

How does a solar skylight work?

A solar skylight functions by using photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electrical energy.

• Solar Panel: Illume skylights are powered by a solar panel placed on your roof, helping cut down on your electricity bills by reducing the need for electric lights or batteries in dark areas of your home.
• Transfer Cable: The solar power is sent to the light panel through a cable, copying the outdoor light. Illume turns on at sunrise and changes brightness during the day based on the sunlight and clouds outside.
• Illume Light Panel: Available in different shapes and sizes like round, rectangular, or square. The lighting panel uses Ambient Light Technology, illuminating the darker spaces in your home and providing a sense of balance between outside and inside lighting environments.
